The TC-ALT provides automated on off and variable speed control based on temperature. It also features an alarm and four selectable modes with different on/off setpoints.
The “On” setpoint for Mode 1 is 80°F/27°C, and is most appropriate for equipment room or closet applications. The setpoint for Mode 2 is 90°F/32°C, and is designed for cabinet, rack, and enclosure applications. Mode 3 is 100°F/38°C, and is also designed for cabinet, rack and enclosure applications. Mode 4 is 110°F/43°C and this higher setpoint can be used for secondary cooling applications and also where the controller’s sensor must be in close proximity to components or a higher temperature is simply desired. Two stage and redundant cooling applications are necessary with many industrial and 'mission critical' systems where two controllers are used with one controller set on one mode and another set on a higher mode.
For each Mode, the fan/s will turn on at 50% speed and will increase in speed in a linear progression until full speed is reached at ~10°F above the “On” setpoint. As the system cools down the fan/s will slow down in a linear progression and ultimately turn off when the temperature drops ~3°F/2°C below the “On” setpoint.
The alarm has 2 modes. The first mode is simply to deactivate the alarm and the second mode is set at a fixed 120°F/49°C.
Another advantage of the unit is that it can be mounted most anywhere since it utilizes a remote sensor. In more extreme applications the sensor can be extended to control remotely mounted fans in projector enclosures, video walls, harsh environment ventilation applications, etc.
