This ceiling ventilation package features the 4" Professional EC Fan, EC automated controller, a ceiling register with filter option, duct flange, and 25' of 4" insulated ducting. The EC Fan and EC temperature controller are the latest fan technology in that it is still a high voltage fan but is low voltage controllable making it more efficient and features linear fan speed control (traditional high voltage fans had step control). The controller is specifically designed for the EC fans and has features including on/off and variable speed control as well as various settings for how quickly the fans ramp up, the speed the fans initially turn on, basically features a professional would expect. The controller can also integrate with control systems as the Fan 2 and Alarm Outputs are 12V outputs which can trigger various functions in most control systems providing different alerts...

It should be noted that the package is intended to provide what is needed to go from the ceiling in a room or closet to the fan unit presumably to be installed in an attic or utility area. The exhaust and where and how the exhaust is run is very application specific so whatever is required to exhaust the unit should be ordered separately. See Ducting Accessories for a variety of options including duct boxes, elbows, reducers... It is recommended to duct the exhaust to the HVAC return but if that is not possible then simply duct it back into the house into a larger room or hallway. Air should not simply be vented to the attic or outside of the home unless the attic is sealed and conditioned or if in a very mild climate.

It should also be noted that the exhaust port should always be ducted, at a minimum 3' of ducting and with a bend or two in it (make an S). These fans are intended to work with a certain amount of pressure and operate more efficiently and quieter with the proper amount of pressure.

The intended use of this package is for moderate venting of rooms and closets. Typically such systems are roughed-in during construction (new or remodeling) but this could be retrofit if have easy attic access. The ceiling grill assembly (think HVAC return style assembly) mounts in the ceiling. The duct plate mounts into that assembly and has a 4"" duct port as part of the plate. 4" ducting is then used to connect to the Inline Duct Fan. Optimally the fan is then exhausted to the HVAC return vent or back into the home. It should also be noted that for venting back into the home can run to a vent that looks similar to other AC vents and the idea is the air will mix with the air in the home, thus why you vent to a larger room or hallway, and then be recycled through the HVAC system. If you choose to not exhaust this way, do be conscious of the extreme amount of air will be pulling out of the home only to be replaced by outside or attic air (very undesirable). For this reason, if are in a very mild climate then it's not so bad but if it's a hot humid climate the HVAC system could be stressed. Now if still proceed to vent to the attic or crawlspace, ensure to still connect 3-4' of ducting to the exhaust port and position like an S. This is to create pressure within the fan as the fan units are intended to run with at least some pressure.

Now for installing the fan unit, refer to the instructions for more detailed instructions and for the mounting options but basically want to isolate the fan, not have it installed to where vibrations may create noise. Typically this would mean if in an attic, to the roof rafters instead of to the ceiling joists. If on the ceiling joist, create a platform and use rubber or foam to insolate the fan.

Powering the Unit. 110/220V AC (15A) is required at the fan unit and the unit has a plug for 110V. Now during construction, a 4 conductor, 18-22awg, should be run from the fan unit to the controller location. This will be hardwired to both the controller and the fan unit and the controller is powered from the fan unit (2 wires are for power, 2 for control).

Temperature Sensor. Included is the controller version with the built-in sensor meaning the controller will be located in the room or closet that are venting. If the remote sensor version is used, a 2 conductor, 18-22awg, should be run between the controller and the desired sensor location.
