The 4" Inline Duct Fan Ceiling Vent System is a package for remotely venting equipment rooms and closets. This is a complete package with moderate airflow and greater efficiency and is intended for ceiling venting applications where wish to pull air from the ceiling in a room or closet.

The package comes with a grill assembly where a filter can also be used with the system which is good for when connecting the exhaust to a return vent. The exhaust side and where and how the exhaust is run is very application specific so whatever is required to exhaust the unit should be ordered separately. See Ducting Accessories for a variety of options included duct boxes, elbows, reducers... It is recommended to exhaust to the HVAC return but if that is not possible, then simply duct it back into the house into a larger room or hallway. Air should not simply be vented to the attic or outside of the home unless the attic is sealed and conditioned or if in a very mild climate. It is highly recommended to have this system professionally installed as some requirements and principles may be difficult to DIY (connecting to the return vent, existing HVAC configuration...).

The fan comes pre-wired with a 120 volt power cord so powering the system is as simple as plugging it in. The fan can also be used with the TC-AVC programmable on/off controller (not included). The ABS housing comes with an integrated mounting bracket and the ducting ports can be separated from the fan body for easy serviceability and for replacing the fan unit without disconnecting the tubing.

The Ceiling Vent System comes complete with 4" Inline Duct Fan, 25 feet of 4" insulated duct tubing, a 10" x 10" Ceiling Mount Grill Assembly. This system can also be used in conjunction with other Cool Components rough-in boxes and passive grills for intake or exhaust.

It should also be noted that the exhaust port should always be ducted, at a minimum 3' of ducting and with a bend or two in it. These fans are intended to work with a certain amount of pressure and operate more efficiently and quieter with the proper amount of pressure.

The intended use of this package is for moderate venting of rooms and closets. Typically such systems are roughed-in during construction (new or remodeling) but this could be retrofit if have easy attic access. The ceiling grill assembly (think HVAC return style assembly) mounts in the ceiling. The duct plate mounts into that assembly and has a 4"" duct port as part of the plate. 4" ducting is then used to connect to the Inline Duct Fan. Optimally the fan is then exhausted to the HVAC return vent or back into the home. It should also be noted that for venting back into the home can run to a vent that looks similar to other AC vents and the idea is the air will mix with the air in the home, thus why you vent to a larger room or hallway, and then be recycled through the HVAC system. If you choose to not exhaust this way, do be conscious of the extreme amount of air will be pulling out of the home only to be replaced by outside or attic air (very undesirable). For this reason, if are in a very mild climate then it's not so bad but if it's a hot humid climate the HVAC system could be stressed. Now if still proceed to vent to the attic or crawlspace, ensure to still connect 3-4' of ducting to the exhaust port and position like an S. This is to create pressure within the fan as the fan units are intended to run with at least some pressure.

Now for installing the fan unit, refer to the instructions for more detailed instructions and for the mounting options but basically want to isolate the fan, not have it installed to where vibrations may create noise. Typically this would mean if in an attic, to the roof rafters instead of to the ceiling joists. If on the ceiling joist, create a platform and use rubber or foam to insolate the fan.

Powering without a Controller. 110/220V AC is required at the fan unit and the unit has a plug for 110V

Powering with a Controller. To control the fan with the TC-AVC the power feed (line) will be fed to the controller, the controller is purely high voltage so fan power out will also be high voltage so that will then be run to the fan unit. This can either be direct/hardwired to the fan or wired into an outlet making it a switched outlet. The unit can be powered with a 12A circuit and this can use 14awg wire.

Controller Sensor. If using a remote sensor, use either the sensor extension cable or run a 2 conductor, 18-22awg, between the controller and the desired location of the . The controller included with the package utilizes a remote sense and the sensor can simply be spliced to the wire (it is only an ohm reading and if the temp can be calibrated within the controller if it affects the reading).
