  Protecting Individual Components

By using the Econo-Cooler, Single-Fan, or Dual-Fan Cooling Units, you can protect the individual components by simply placing the units on top of the component. You need to make a judgement call and first decide if you think that heat will be, or is indeed a problem already. An immediate indicator of a potential problem is to simply consider the clearances and general airflow around components. If the components are in the open then you many not need additional airflow. If they are however in a cabinet with doors to conceal the equipment, then you most likely will have a problem with airflow. With the first example, if it is open space and you have the recommended clearances, then your equipment should be OK. If they are in an open space but clearances between the components is tight, then you should consider adding a cooling unit. This is especially the case if you set for example a DVD player on a receiver because it is not deep enough to set the receiver on the DVD player. Few, if any, manufacturers will consider doing this acceptable, and we do not recommend straying from the manufacturer recommendations, but if you have this scenario or something similar, you need to be very cautious and ensure that the components have adequate airflow. If not, equipment may lock up, shut down, and/or fail prematurely.

Econo-Cooler & Single Fan Unit. Appropriate for smaller components such as cable and satellite receivers, game boxes, and other components that generate heat but not huge amounts such as amplifiers. The Single Fan unit can also be used for amplifiers and receivers, or other heat-producers, if only a relatively small amount of circulation is required.

Dual Fan Unit. This unit if appropriate for amplifiers and receivers and other components that generate greater amounts of heat. This unit does an excellent job of providing adequate airflow to most of these components but if you have an exceptionally large amplifier or a situation where airflow is very minimal, you may consider using two of these units on one component or use one of the Component Units.

Component Unit. These units are appropriate for much more demanding applications. These units are the same width as a component and is deep enough that components can be stacked on it or it can be used to stacked on top of components.
