This system is for very aggressively venting rooms and closets by venting through an interior wall.
It has been designed to move air from room to room which then creates better circulation through the HVAC system. This unit is intended to be installed into the wall and with an opening on the other side of the wall. When circulating hot air it is always best to pull the air from a higher location which means the fan unit should be installed higher in the room or closet. It should be noted that on the other side of the wall the exhaust opening does not need to be directly across from the fan unit. As long as the opening is in the same stud bay and there is no insulation, the exhaust opening can be offset. If desired or necessary, a sealed pass through can be created within the wall which means air will only flow from the fan unit, through the wall and is exhausted (air will not travel throughout the stud bay). The best way to create a sealed pass through is by using wood blocking or foam board.
This unit features 4 large 92mm magnetic bearing fans which provides aggressive airflow, roughly double the HiFlo Pro which is adequate for most applications so this is intended for more demanding situations. It is compatible with all of the low voltage controllers (TC-BSC/ALT/ASC) and be used with the AVC but for on/off control only.
It should be noted if are able to reach the HVAC's return vent with ducting then may consider using the Ceiling Vent System or one of the Inline Duct Fan products.
Harsh Environment Option. This unit is also available with a fans engineered with an industry leading IP68 rating for harsh environments which is ideal for outside, wet, humid or especially dirty and dusty areas. The units are also effective in high altitudes and in extreme temperatures. It should be noted that harsh environment does not mean better quality or longevity, just enhanced engineering and production to protect against these environmental situations. In practical terms this means that unless truly require the added protection, there is no reason to purchase these fans.
While most people believe that the heat generated by components is undesirable, it is a matter of perspective. It can be damaging to electronic equipment but, in the winter, most regions pay good money to heat their homes and even when the weather is milder and we seek cooler temperatures (air conditioning). The entire purpose of the HVAC system is to take warmer air and convert it to cooler air. It may not make sense to increase the ambient temperature of the incoming air, but it is much easier for the HVAC system to 'reprocess' air that is simply heated, or really just warm by most standards. For this reason, you never want to vent outside of the home - when venting outside, that air is often times replaced by air from the attic (through recessed lighting or other penetrations) or from outside where the air can be hot, humid, smelly...
